If you know little about fasting from the Bible, I’ve read a new book on the subject that I believe will be of great help to you. It’s a short book titled What The Bible Says About Fasting that gets right to the point of the subject, using scripture for credibility. The book is written by Reverend James Casimier, Jr., Th.D, who has authored other important Christian information books.
The book is more like a guide because it answers important questions concerning the why, how and when of fasting without side-tracking or writing more information than is necessary. It’s straight-forward and to the point. Reverend Casimier begins with a clear description of what fasting is, what comprises the specific types of fasting with step-by-step instructions for various situations.
However, it’s not enough to know the how of fasting. It’s also important to know the benefits. Fasting is an important part of the Christian walk, but just like studying the Word and praying, we must make the decision to do it. We must be disciplined. So the more we understand why it’s important and how it can benefit our lives and the lives of others, the more resolved we’ll be to actively take part in fasting with prayer or for spiritual clarity to know God’s will or guidance.
It’s also important to understand what kind of attitude we need when fasting. Reverend Casimier makes it clear how to regard fasting in order to get the most spiritual benefits from it rather than looking only for emotional or physical benefits. I can’t just recommend What God Says About Fasting to those who need to learn more about the subject. I believe it’s a book that all Christians should read to insure that they follow scripture when fasting and to have a deeper relationship with God for greater spiritual insight. It has helped me to better understand fasting for an enhanced prayer life. Get it, read it and use it!
