Every believer must understand that God is a spirit. When I first began to study the Word, I understood it from the physical knowledge and experience I had. It appeared that God’s Word didn’t work for me. But because I had made a commitment to live God’s Word no matter what, I made a study to find out what I was doing wrong. I had many problems that needed to be resolved so I didn’t want to waste time blaming God. He says in the Bible that He is a just God so I took Him at His Word. I studied for some time until I learned how to live John 4:24. The answer to my problem was so simple, yet life-changing; I wasn’t looking at God as Spirit. I was acting and reacting to life circumstances as if God were physical, like myself. I viewed everything and everyone by human sense knowledge rather than by God’s wisdom and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Having this knowledge took the burden off of me to live God’s Word and plan for my life by my own ability, but rather in Christ. So before continuing, look to God and His Word as spirit for a clear understanding of the Holy Spirit’s role in the Trinity.
