Stillness and the Word: The Keys to Obtaining
Balance & Wholeness in Christ

“Be still and know that I am God”
– Psalm 46:10 (KJV)

The goal of every Christian is to become more like Christ. The Apostle Paul expressed his own desire to die to self daily in 1 Corinthians 15:31. He also made us aware in Romans 12:2 that we should allow ourselves to be transformed through the renewing of the mind. This is so we’ll be able to determine “what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”

When we really think about it, there is really no reason for us to be stressed nor consumed by anything of this world!

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with
thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”
– Philippians 4:6(KJV)

I know this is easier said than done; because the truth is, God did not promise us a life free of challenges. However, He did promise that He would never leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5) and that He would give us peace throughout…allowing us to obtain balance and wholeness in Christ, in preparation for His return.

“And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul
and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
– 1 Thessalonians 5:23 (KJV)

But how do we achieve this balance and wholeness? First of all, to obtain balance and wholeness is to be restored. So the answer is: restoration starts with seeking His presence. Matthew 6:33 tells us to “seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Yet also obtain balance and wholeness in Christ through declaring His word. Most of us know this theoretically; but until we make the time or the commitment to become rooted in His word, love and His presence, then we won’t truly experience this transformation. In fact, I wasn’t able to embark on my own journey of obtaining balance and wholeness in Christ until I began seeking Him with all my heart and regularly meditating on God’s word.

“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for
reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness…”
– 2 Timothy 3:16 (KJV)

A true indication that we are genuinely undergoing this metamorphosis is when we are being led to glorify Him in our body and in our spirit (1 Corinthians 6:20), which includes:

  • taking care of His temple,
  • making healthier lifestyle choices in line with God’s word,
  • living true to who we are in Christ, and
  • growing in the spirit by becoming more like Christ each day – which
also means bearing the fruits of love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness and temperance (Galatians
    5:22-23).

It is important to recognize that obtaining balance and wholeness in Christ is not a destination; it is a faith journey throughout our entire lives. Basically, our job is to seek God’s presence, declare His word and then be still and allow the Holy Spirit to take care of the rest.

I’ll leave you with a simple biblical meditation exercise:

1. Sit in a comfortable position with your back straight, either on the floor in a crossed legged position or in a chair with your feet firmly planted on the floor.
2. Close your eyes, take a deep breath in, and then exhale slowly.
3. Declare the following scripture (1 Corinthians 6:20) out load in 1st person:

“I glorify God in my body, and in my spirit, which are God’s.”

4. Take another deep breath in, and exhale slowly. Then allow the word of God and His presence to permeate your entire being.
