Trust In GodAccording to Hebrews 11:1, faith gives us assurance for those things in which we hope for. It’s an intangible proof that we have something without seeing it first. Faith goes against what most people have learned concerning belief in anything because we are normally taught that first we see and then we believe. However, reading Hebrews 11:1 we see quite the opposite.

Hebrews 11:1 (ESV)
11 Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.

Faith goes against human nature or the way we’ve been taught about how we can obtain something. We must first have proof of it’s existence. We must have visual proof or already know of it’s existence or believe in it by the word of someone we trust. Biblical faith means that we believe God’s Words without having visual or sense knowledge proof. We must receive something from God without physical proof of it’s existence.

We Need To Look To Jesus For A Deeper Trust In God

It’s very easy for us to trust in others, but when it comes to believing in God, doubt immediately floods our minds and whatever it is we want or desire is no longer a possibility to receive because of a lack of faith.

With trust in others by listening to what they say and then determining if we want to believe them according to the trust that they have either earned from us or have tricked us into believing about them. Hopefully by the time we’re adults we’re more discrimination about who we trust, but in any case I think you understand the feeling of trust you get with some people when they tell you something and you believe them. Likewise, you can think about how you feel when someone tries you convince you of something and you flat out don’t believe them because they have a reputation with you of being a liar and a manipulator.

If you apply how you feel about someone you trust when they tell you something you need to act upon or make a decision about, then you can understand how to trust God. Through your salvation you are empowered to trust God by faith through Jesus Christ. Jesus is our friend, so we can think about how on the word of a friend or family member such as a parent or sibling you quickly take action upon what they tell you. If they say you can go to a specific store and get a product on sale you’ve been wanting, you jump in the care and rush right out with your wallet and a smile on your face believing with all your heart that you’ll soon have that product in your hands in only a few minutes.

Without realizing it, you’re applying the faith principle from Hebrews 11:1 in a situation like the one I just described. You have no proof that what they’re saying is true. You’ve never been to that store. How do you know it exists? How do you know it really has the product you want? You took action based upon the “word” of someone you believed wholeheartedly because you took action immediately!

This is how you have faith in God. You have to have the same trust in God’s WORD that you have in someone’s word that you know and trust. Only you have to go beyond that trust because you can’t see God. However, you can see His WORD. The Bible is his Word. So we need to trust God’s Word and believe it completely with our hearts the way we sometimes do with strangers in some extreme cases. When we develop that trust in God, we’re able to have what we say, accomplish what we want or need to do and live the dreams that God put into our hearts.

Trust in God or trusting in God’s Word will bring you more than just stuff or whatever you want, it will bring you things money can’t buy. It will bring you good health. With health you have long life. You’ll also achieve great wisdom for all the issues of your life. People will look up to you as a person of your “WORD” because you’ll be speaking and living God’s WORD.

Mark 11:23-24 (NKJV)
23 For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says. 24 Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.

Proverbs 4:20-23 (NKJV)
20 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your eyes; Keep them in the midst of your heart; 22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh. 23 Keep your heart with all diligence, For out of it spring the issues of life.

If you want to feel good about yourself and have a strong confidence that will keep you from feeling insecure around those who might criticize you or try to tear down what you’ve built up before God (family, business or work) or what you know to be true, then you need to keep speaking God’s Word from your heart and act upon it in faith that it’s true.

How To Cultivate Faith In God

We develop faith in God by spending time reading God’s Word, learning what it says and believing that it’s true by using God’s principle for building faith. Romans 10:17 says that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. The more we hear God’s Word and act upon it the more faith we will have that it’s true and the more we will trust God. This is how we come to trust others. We listen to what they say, and if we act upon it, we will receive the forthcoming results whether for the good or the bad. However, with God’s Word we have the assurance that what we hear will be good for us because Proverbs 4:22 tells us that they will prosper our lives.

We also need to spend time with God, getting to know Him through His Word and through His Son, Jesus Christ. The more time we spend with Him, the deeper our relationship will become and the more faith and trust we’ll have in Him. Once you get to know God and His Word, you’ll know how to pray successfully, receive God’s guidance and live His special purpose for your life. It’s a great life that will bring you the most fulfillment there is to achieve through the special abilities and talents God has given you.
