BUILDING HIGH

SELF-ESTEEM

-Short Bible Study-

Building high self-esteem is building a strong inner growth through Jesus Christ by identifying with Him.

Putting On The Full Armor Of God

Sometimes, you may wonder if some people are born leaders or

positive thinkers. Why do some people seem to have everything

going for them when others, especially Christians, seem to be

on the losing end of life?

Being positive, and staying positive is a choice an individual

makes.  But as Christians, we can be positive through the Word

of God which has life and which is always leading us in the path

of Jesus Christ.   As we continue to follow Jesus by living

according to the Word, our confidence grows to do those things

which on our own would be difficult, but with God are never

impossible.

By conquering what we, as individuals, find difficult or impossible,

a high self-esteem level is developed and our ability to change is

continually developing us for success.  This is having a victorious

life in Christ!  We're not perfect, but always being "perfected."

So we can say that building self esteem and drawing lines for

self-improvement is a choice and a blessing from God that we

receive by putting on the "new man" at  salvation.  It is not a

talent that we are either born with or without.

God would never come down from heaven and tell you, "George,

you may now have permission to build self esteem and improve

yourself."  We were created in His image, so all we have to do is

take on His characteristics by becoming the "new man" in Christ

Jesus at salvation.

Ephesians 6 :16-17  Above all, taking the shield of faith,

wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the

wicked.  17.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword

of the spirit, which is the Word of God:

In life, it can be difficult to stay firm in who you are, especially

when things and people around you keep trying to pull you down.

But as long as you are fixed in knowing who you are (in Christ)

you only need to carry the shield of faith, the sword of truth

(the Word of God) and wear the helmet of your salvation to

remain strong and win your battles.

This approach, according to Ephesians 6 :16-17, will give you a

high self-esteem and greater wisdom through "self-change" from

within, resulting in a better attitude, productive behavior and

"Word-based" thinking that you can do all things through Jesus

Christ.

Building self-esteem by identification in Christ will eventually lead

to self-improvement if we start to become responsible for who we

are, what we have and what we do. Its like a flame that should

gradually spread like a brush fire from inside and out. When we

develop self-esteem, we take control of our mission, values and

discipline.

High self-esteem brings about self improvement, true assessment,

and determination. So how do you start putting up the building

blocks of self-esteem?

  •      -Be positive.

     -Be contented and happy.

     -Be appreciative.

-Never miss an opportunity to compliment.

A positive way of living will help you build self esteem, which will

lead to self-achievement and ultimately success in whatever you

do.

What I just said is all good and well, but it is only positive thinking.

However, add God's Word to that and you'll experience success by

God's standards, which is more fulfilling.

Here are three ways in which you can do this.

1.  It is not enough to give up things for Christ.  Know that you must

set your mind on heavenly things and the wrong things will drop off

for a permanent change.

2.  See yourself in Christ daily and in all that you do.  If you can't

do something in the name of Jesus, then don't do it!  Doing this will

help the Spirit of God guide you in all things.

3.  It is not enough to stop something.  You must also start something

else.  So, when you quit a bad habit, begin a positive action from

the Word of God.

Here is a practical guide that will help you overcome some of the

most common areas where our self-esteem is attacked.  If you can remember that you are always the victor, then you will remain

composed and confident no matter what the challenge. And when

you feel a bit more challenged than you can handle, turn to God and

He will see you through.

Remember you are always in training for God's special call upon your

life. Many times, God will use our experience to promote us to the ultimate work that He has chosen for us to fulfill.  So even if you're in

a job you don't like at the moment, learning to give it your best by

looking at God as your employer will help to prepare and train you for more responsibility and promotion in the future. Then God will be able

to promote you in due time.

If you always keep in mind that you're in training with God, you will

have more patience to move forward with God in steps, which is how

he leads you to your calling.

Building High Self-esteem #1 : Negative Work Environment

Beware of the "dog eat dog" theory where everyone else is fighting

just to get a head. This is where non-appreciative people usually

thrive. No one will appreciate your contributions even if you miss

lunch and dinner, and stay up late. Stay out of this, it will ruin your

self esteem.

With God, you don't have to worry about competition, he will promote

you in due time as you center on doing your work for Him and not

others.  He appreciates you and will always find a way to lift you

above those who are fighting for the top.

Center upon Christ, do your work at the best of your ability, and you

will move forward without having to worry and be upset with others.

Always enjoy your work day and your life.

Building High Self-esteem #2: Other People's Behavior

Bulldozers, brown nosers, gossipmongers, whiners, backstabbers,

snipers, people filled with self-pity, controllers, naggers, complainers,

exploders, patronizers, sluffers; these types of people will pose

negative feelings toward your self esteem, as well as toward your

self-improvement efforts.

God mentions all of the above behaviors as abominable.  He does not

and cannot favor such people because they go against His nature

(although He does love them).

Follow God's nature and speak well of others rather than bad things

(unless they are harming someone or stealing).  Never pity yourself,

try to back stab for any position, or take your negative past or

problems out on others. Doing so says that you have little or no faith

in God.  Stop whining and trust Him.  Philippians 4:6-8 says it all for

how you should think and act for success.

Building High Self-esteem #3: Changing Environments

You can't be a green bug on a brown field. Changes challenge our

comfort zone without a doubt. They test our flexibility, adaptability

and alter the way we think. Changes will make life difficult for awhile,

they may cause stress but they will help us find ways to improve

ourselves. This is the way God shapes us into the people He can use

as He prepares us to fulfill our destinies.

If you want to avoid the mediocre, then move up to God's ways and

let Him test, challenge and refine you into the great creation you are.

Building High Self-esteem #4: Past Experience

It's okay to cry and say "ouch!" when we experience pain. But don't

let pain transform itself into fear. It might grab you by the tail and

swing you around. Treat each failure and mistake as a lesson.

Every mistake you make can be turned around by God into a success.

See mistakes not a failures, but stepping stones to greater things that

are unknown to you in the present.  Your past is dead, so don't let it

haunt you.

Building High Self-esteem #5: Negative World View

Don't get involved with all the negativity in the world or dwell on the

negative that is happening to you.  In building self-esteem, we must

learn how to look to God and trust Him to turn a ntake what we have in the present

make the best out of the worst situations.

Building High Self-esteem #6: Your Identity

The way you are and your behavioral traits is said to be a mixed end

product of your inherited traits (genetics), your upbringing (character),

and your environmental surroundings such as your spouse, the company,

the economy or your circle of friends. However you have your own

identity through Jesus Christ.

If your father is a failure, it doesn't mean you have to be a failure too. You are free to be the success God made you to be after His own image.

patterning yourself after Christ, take the Seed Of Recreation Bible Study.

Building High Self-esteem #7: Learning From Others

God's wisdom is at play through the mistakes of others.  Never be too

stubborn to learn from them.  Many times God uses people to help us,

but we need to be close to God to know His leading.  Listen, and  then

take time to wait upon God for answers.

Follow these steps as they arise in your life and you'll rise to greater heights with God to accomplish greater confidence and ability in Him.
