Christian DedicationChristian dedication can mean many things to many people. I’m only going to reference it here regarding the dedication of one’s life to Christ.

When Christians are saved they accept Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. However, most Christians walk off into the sunset after that with the belief the everything is going to be great now. I was saved when I was nine years old. I made that salvation commitment and then continued with my life, loving God but wondering why everything was going so wrong. I just told myself that when I got older things will change. What a huge delusion that was! But then I was only a child and that’s the point of this lesson! When we receive salvation, we are only as babies in Christ if we never go beyond that first step of salvation to mature in Christ.

Ephesians 4:14 (ASV) 14 that we may be no longer children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, in craftiness, after the wiles of error;

When we’re saved or we become born again through Jesus Christ this is only the first step in our salvation. The salvation process is also recognized and identified as being “born again” as I’ve stated. There’s a reason for this. It’s because when we begin with Christ, we begin as “little babes” just as if we are born physically into the world as babies. The moment we become born again in Christ, we are born again spiritually. So we are not yet fully matured Christians. This is where Christian dedication should should take place.

Babies are immature physically and mentally, but we expect them to develop. If they don’t, there is a problem. It’s the same spiritually. Once we’re born again we must grow spiritually or there will be a problem with our salvation and thus, our ability to follow Christ. We need to allow God’s Word to transform our minds with the outcome of a change in our actions in order to create a successful life in Christ.

1 Peter 2:2 (ASV) 2 as newborn babes, long for the spiritual milk which is without guile, that ye may grow thereby unto salvation;

Some Christians prefer to sit back and let others take care of them spiritually, physically and emotionally. Then when they need help they ask others to fix things for them or do their work for them. One common thing many Christians do is to ask their pastors to pray for them, but they never pray for themselves. Without a Christian dedication to grow in the Lord they remain babies. Then when something goes wrong and there is no one available to pray for them, they fall apart because they didn’t take the time to grow in Christ on their own.

Christians need to take responsibility for spiritual growth. They must develop their faith, pray and help others grow or receive salvation. Instead of wanting others to feed, clothe, and change your diaper spiritually you should desire to grow up spiritually. Life is not a free ride and becoming a Christian should not be a means of getting a free ride in life either. Otherwise one risks becoming slothful in their Christianity rather than making the Christian dedication to continually grow in the Word to serve God.

Christians must be taught at salvation that we are born again so that we can become mature Christians, actively serving the Lord. Otherwise we don’t know what to do.

Philippians 3:12-14 (ASV) 12 Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect: but I press on, if so be that I may lay hold on that for which also I was laid hold on by Christ Jesus. 13 Brethren, I count not myself yet to have laid hold: but one thing I do, forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, 14 I press on toward the goal unto the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

Christian Dedication

Once we’re saved we need to continue the process as Paul stated in Philippians 3:12-14. He didn’t look back, thinking he was done. Instead, he says that he will continue to stretch himself in Christ. This is the Christian commitment we need to have.

We need the kind of Christian dedication that will transform our lives through Jesus Christ. Along with salvation it’s necessary to dedicate your life to Christ for spiritual growth and to live God’s will. The process is easy, but carrying it out takes the type of commitment Paul had. As you remain on this site and read the lessons provided, you’ll be able to develop your life through Jesus Christ with spiritual nourishment for the rest of your life. Christian dedication is a lifestyle.
