The Bible says that Christians are not to have anxiety, but to live in the moment trusting God by faith. Many people believe that stress is a motivator and that it’s a means of showing that we have feelings. But anxiety can jeopardize our health, our creativity and our ability to cope with life on the level of faith that we’re to cultivate in Christ.  Christ died on the cross to make us over-comers in Christ, not victims of life.  Hover over the following scripture to read:

Matthew 6:34 / Philippians 4:6-7

Verse 8 of Philippians Gives 8 Anxiety Reduction Strategies

Philippians 4:8. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.

God has given us 8 categories of thoughts to meditate upon and when we do, the Word will take action or come alive within us to accomplish what it’s suppose to do. Call out the Word for things that are true (God’s Word), things that are noble (of high esteem), whatever is just (God’s wisdom), whatever is pure (not of the world, but Godly), whatever things are lovely (seeing the best in people, your environment, etc), whatever is of a good report ( (positive thinking and speaking), and think upon that which has virtue (living God’s Word) and whatever is praiseworthy (praise God for His blessings).

I used to be a very negative person.  I came from a family that complained about everything, so I continued the legacy until I committed to living the Word.  In a short time I went from being a complainer to a person who could overcome all things.  But it took awhile to discover how to make that change.

When I learned about the verses I just gave you, especially from Philippians 4:6-8I began practicing them everyday by comparing my thoughts, actions and attitudes to them.  I would change when I saw anything that went against verse 8 of Philippians 4.

It was difficult to stay with it at first because I was trying to make the changes on my own.  However, we can’t make such mountain moving changes without looking to Jesus.  We can only use willpower and that never lasts.

I learned how to give the burdens of my negativity to Jesus and then I trusted God to help me change as I worked with Him daily.  By doing this, I could see progress each day as the Holy Spirit empowered my actions based upon the Word.

I am still praising and thanking God for pulling me out of a reality of sadness, disappointment and victimization due to negativity.  I’ll never stop thanking God for making my world and my life filled with the eternal light of Jesus Christ.

Here’s the scriptural process in it’s simplest of terms that caused my change:

1 Corinthians 3:6  I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase.

Planting seeds of faith will allow the Holy Spirit to water them so that God will give increase or change. With a combination of scripture and daily activities, you can overcome anxiety because scripture tells us not to be anxious for anything.  Therefore we can live above it on all levels of life.

8 Anxiety Reduction Strategies To Help Us Lean Upon Scripture

1. Talk with friends. Anxiety makes a person feel alone. One way to combat this is to remain open about your feelings and communicate with other people who you can trust. Make time for your friends or family who you believe will encourage you.

2. Seek Christian counseling. If you need extra help, don’t be afraid to get encouragement from a professional.  They can help you organize the changes you need to make and give you a clear path of where to begin with a Christian influence. If you have a severe case of anxiety or stress, see a healthcare professional while you use God’s Word for change.

3. Meditate.  Philippians 4:8 clearly tells us to meditate upon the specific categories of thoughts that it lists.  Doing this is a must for change.  God’s Word has life.  As we meditate and act upon it, it becomes a reality!  Before meditating, which is to mutter or speak on a word or sentence, try taking deep breaths in and out. Doing so will relax all of your muscles in the process of your speaking the Word.

4. Exercise. Start an exercise routine. Exercise gets the endorphins pumping and will actually relax you. When you engage in regular exercise you get your body into a healthy rhythm. You’ll have a built-in break from anxious situations when you make time for exercise.

5. Start a journal  Starting a journal can be a real stress reliever and it will show you the progress you’re making.  I did this and it was very helpful. In addition to reducing anxiety, starting a journal might also be beneficial for you because it will help you preserve good memories.

6. Eat a balanced diet. Putting healthy foods into your body can help reduce anxiety. Analyze your current diet and pinpoint the items that might need to go. Enjoy the less healthy items in moderation while you increase your intake of the nutritious foods your body craves. Also, you may want to consider taking a multivitamin.

7. Drink water. This one sounds simple enough, right? The truth is that water has some amazing healing powers. Be sure to get at least 6 glasses of clear fluids each day.  Check with your doctor for this one because liquid intake can be different for some people.

8. Find an outdoor hobby. Play a sport or start a garden. Not only will you get some much-needed fresh air, but you’ll also relieve stress while taking your mind off of your problems.

These 8 Anxiety Reduction Strategies for both spiritual and physical growth will improve your life in ways you can’t even imagine.  So in order to find out, begin using them today!
